MocoMUN ICJ Committee
Sherwood MUN
Dear Agents,
We are pleased to welcome you all to the International Court of Justice committee. The topic for this committee is the territorial dispute over the Pinnacle Islands between Japan and the People’s Republic of China.
In resolving this territorial dispute, the Court will expect strong, creative, and logical arguments that provide support for your nation's claim to the disputed islands. For your reference, we have provided you with a detailed Background Guide. We hope that you will find this Background Guide useful as it serves to introduce you to the topic of debate for this committee; however, it is not meant to replace further research. We highly encourage you to conduct research in full detail. This will expand your knowledge on the dispute and prepare you for contentious debate.
Prior to the conference, each Agent will construct and submit a Brief consisting of arguments that support a nation's claim to the Pinnacle islands. Briefs will act as position papers for this committee. Briefs should include the following elements:
Christopher Sung
Chair of the ICJ Committee
Olivia Hardy
Co-Chair of the ICJ Committee
