Achieving Universal Literacy
MocoMUN UNESCO Committee
Quince Orchard & Clarksburg MUNs
Dear delegates,
Hello and welcome to MoCoMUNC 2015!
My name is Sean Xu, and I will be chairing with Juli Bernstein. This is my third year in this wonderful program, where people can participate and learn more about government, public speaking, teamwork, and leadership.
This is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, a group dedicated wholly to promote intellectual collaboration in order to “further individual respect for justice, for the rule of the law and for the human rights and fundamental freedoms which are affirmed for the peoples of the world... by the Charter of the United Nations.” UNESCO pursues universal respect for justice, human rights and fundamental freedom primarily through education, science, and culture.
This year we will be talking about education gaps between social classes and genders, education opportunities in developing countries, as well as early-age education for children living in poverty. The right to education should be a universal right, regardless of a person’s economic status, gender, and nationality.
Lastly, I would like to welcome you all to the UNESCO Committee. MoCoMUNC is set early in the semester, so we’d love to train all of you to be prepared for collegiate conferences down the road. Because this is a novice committee, my partner and I will be happy to help solve any issues and problems you encounter. I hope the background guide will be most useful. I look forward to seeing intense debates and different perspectives and approaches to the issue at hand.
Feel free to contact me for questions and concerns regarding your preparation for the conference.
Sean Xu: [email protected]
Best regards,
Your UNESCO Chairs
